Why sats?
Saying "100,000 sats" is easier than "0.001 bitcoin", and it is a reminder that you never need to buy a whole coin. The name honours Satoshi Nakamoto, who wrote the Bitcoin whitepaper. Read more in Sats explained.
Where you see sats
- Lightning wallets usually show balances in sats. See Lightning basics.
- Fees are quoted in sats per virtual byte (sat/vB). See fees and the mempool.
- Many exchanges and wallets let you switch the display to sats in settings.
