SHATOSHI is a free Bitcoin education site. We collect as little as we can. This page explains what we collect, why, who handles it and how to ask us to delete it.
Who we are
SHATOSHI (shatoshi.co.uk) is responsible for the personal data described here. Contact us about privacy at hello@shatoshi.co.uk.
What we collect and why
- Newsletter. If you sign up to The Sunday Stack we collect your email address so we can send it. We rely on your consent, and every email has an unsubscribe link.
- Contact form. If you write to us we collect your name, email address, enquiry type and message so we can reply. We rely on our legitimate interest in answering you.
- Donations. If you support SHATOSHI through Stripe, Stripe collects your payment details and email address. We never see your full card number. We receive your name, email, the amount and the date so we can give you your thank-you Starter Kit, keep records and handle any problems. We rely on doing what you asked and on our legal duty to keep financial records.
- Analytics. We use PostHog to count visits and clicks, such as which pages are read and which links are used, so we can improve the site. This uses your IP address and browser details. We use it to see how the site is used, not to build a profile of you or show you adverts. We rely on our legitimate interest in running and improving the site.
- Hosting and security. Cloudflare serves the site and processes technical data such as your IP address to deliver pages and block attacks.
Who handles your data
- Buttondown: newsletter emails.
- Stripe: donations and payment processing.
- PostHog: site analytics.
- Cloudflare: hosting, security and the contact form email.
Some pages also load content from other services, which receive your IP address when your browser fetches it: Google Fonts (fonts), mempool.space, blockchain.info and alternative.me (live price and network data), YouTube (video embeds, using its privacy-enhanced mode), TradingView (charts on the markets page) and Open Library (book covers).
Some of these services may process data outside the UK. Where they do, they use legal safeguards such as standard contractual clauses. We never sell your data.
How long we keep it
- Newsletter: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it.
- Contact messages: up to 2 years, then deleted.
- Donation records: 6 years, as UK tax rules require.
- Analytics: up to 12 months.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete your data, or object to how we use it. Email hello@shatoshi.co.uk and we will reply within one month. If you are unhappy with our answer you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Changes
